Saturday

Took a while to get to sleep last night and I have the room above the kitchen/dining area. The Guest House has a special Thai function on over the next day and they start rearranging the furniture (dragging tables and chairs on tiled floors) at five o’clock for a big breakfast!

I half slept for a couple more hours then went down for breakfast when the crowd had dispersed. During breakfast the landlady says she has to move me to another Guest House just for one night as she has previous bookings because of the function, no big deal.
This is the view from my room I'm getting kicked out of.
I pack my stuff and her husband drives me down to tonight’s Guest House – it’s two doors up from my Family Guy bar!

Greg maybe coming down today and will be confused, I emailed him yesterday to let him know I’m staying at the same place as last time but the landlady promises to tell him where I am if he shows up.

I’m a bit hung-over from last night, so I walk around and do some small errands. I have walked that much in the last month that the great thongs I have are worn out but I bought them here so I went to the same shop and bought another pair, back relief. I wonder how often Jesus had to get a new pair of sandals and if he got back problems from bad soles.
I filled the morning walking and my stomach with pancakes then had a lay down in my new room. It’s not near the river, there’s no TV, no wifi, it’s a bit older and more “lived in” and has no air-conditioning but that’s ok, the weather is not too hot. At least the bed and bathroom are clean and comfortable.

After my nap I go looking for Greg and found him in an internet café. He’s worn out from his trip down so we go for dinner and say goodnight, he found some other Guest House.

I went for a couple of beers and some Family Guy then retired. I’m right in the middle of the action strip and there’s music and voices all around me, the Yobbo district, could be a long night.

I find it strange that a month ago it was hot and sunny and the rivers were really flowing and that was “low season” – now it’s “high season” and it’s cooler and less sunny, they still run the hot air balloons but the sunsets have been dull and overcast. The Yobbos start the tubing later and finish earlier because it’s cooler. Maybe it’s just more comfortable for the retired crowd from Europe with money.
