Greg comes down and informs me that he is usually the butt of a lot of jokes from his snoring but there is a new contender, I am the loudest snorer that that has ever been to the village, very proud! After wandering the water front and going crazy with the camera we head back up for breakfast around eleven.
The house.
There are five satellite dishes in town but not everyone has a TV.
Some guys repairing a broken electricity water turbine.
After that I inform Greg I would like to see Buddha so we head to the local temple that has one monk and a handful of novices. The temple doors are shut but I ask a novice if I can go inside and he nods. I spend some time thanking “O beautiful one” in the fantastic old temple.
After this we head to the stream with three local boys in tow. We find some novices bathing, I strip down to my under wear and go for a swim also.
We start wandering a bit further up stream and end up hiking the two hours up to the waterfall at the top.
After a refreshing swim we make our way back down to the house for lunch at about three.
Along the way there are numerous ingenious water turbines with wires running down to the village that supply some of the huts with power.
Here's the guys that were repairing the electricity water turbine when we started up the mountain replacing it on our way back down.
Back down to the river for sunset photos, kids playing in the water, fishermen returning, school kids returning, there is a community built school in town (teaching Lao) that goes to grade five, after that the kids need to take a boat to the next village for higher grades. Again, it is so beautiful!
I managed to purchase a beer in town earlier so the evening shower I have that with dinner however there is no ice anywhere here so it is British warm beer! I am so tired and go upstairs to lay down, Greg also comes up and lays down. He giggles and asks if I know what time it is – it is seven thirty!
I wake some time during the night to torrential rain, the first I've experienced for over a week, quite a change from Saigon. I wait for the leaks but the roof is good. I go downstairs for a wee which suddenly turns into an urgent need for the squatter and I’ve forgotten to bring my torch so in the pouring rain I run to the bathroom in the dark and pray that my aim is good! Back in bed I blissfully fall back to sleep to the beautiful sounds of rain on the tin roof. My aim was not so good so I make amends in the morning, just like what i used to do for work.
