What Day Is It?

Woke at five to the sound of those arrogant cheese eating surrender monkey French in the hallway at the top of their voices, my temper is getting better, I said nothing. Awake again at eight and hungry. I wander about fifteen minutes to a café I found that has strong wifi and great food next to the Mekong. In a good mood I wander towards Wat Xieng Thong on the end of the peninsula and introduce myself to Jess a lovely English lass who is heading that way also.
We visit the Wat and spend a couple more hours walking and talking around the peninsula. She needs to do some laundry and I need to change into shorts. Jess gave me a ticket to the museum her friend left yesterday as I mentioned I wanted to see it today.
After a rest and a change I head down the street for some lunch and develop a small headache. I see Jess walk past and we go into a tour operators, she wants to go trekking and I want to go to the Plain of Jars. I head off to the museum which used to be the palace when Laung Prabang was the capital.
I bump into Jess again in the museum, it is in the centre of town but we go our separate ways. My headache is getting worse so I head back to my room for some air-conditioning and panadol.

After a couple hours sleep I head down to the river where the massage places are and get a great traditional Lao massage, sweet relief, she really worked my claves which needed it after all the steps from the last couple of days.

It is just on sunset now and I can’t believe these bars by the river are mostly empty at this time it is so beautiful. I find one with a girl sitting by herself and sit at the table behind her for one beer. I’m sussing her out because I don’t want to be stuck talking to an airhead or a “me me me” girl.
Eventually I decide she seems ok so I say “excuse me if I get another beer would you mind if I join you?” she says “what took you so long?” Her name is Ingrid, she is from Austria. We chat until it gets dark then she is going to meet friends and I need to get some dinner so we say goodbye.

I head into the food market and tonight I have the duck but it’s not enough so I get some pork as well, too much! I go for a stroll through the night markets to walk it off, get an ice cream and go back to my room. Another relaxed day in Laung Prabang.
