Old Mekong River

Awake at seven I wander up the road for coffee and and a chicken roll, both just horrible. So I am up early to climb the hill in the centre of town to visit Phu Si temple with the early morning sun.
At the bottom I bought two birds in a cage to release at the top. Miss Sam – the pickpocket got the USD you gave me but I used the Lao Kip you gave me to buy the birds, I thought of you as they flew to freedom, you earnt some good karma today.
A beautiful view over Laung Prabang at the top.
After the temple I went down to the river and found a great café for fruit salad and a decent coffee. I was then approached by Mr Sonephet about taking a boat to the Buddha cave. I could have done it for half the price in a tuk tuk but a boat is a lot gentler on my back and for fifty dollars a covered boat all to myself.............why not?

I went back to my room to prepare and rest for a couple of hours then back to the river, bought a much better BBQ chicken roll and away we went.
First we need to fuel up at the floating service station.
Two hours upstream and one hour back with an hour to myself to explore the caves.
We head back into the sunset and I have a beer by the river to watch the sun go down again before returning to my room for another rest, it has been a long day!
After dark I make a journey to the food markets for dinner again, just a brilliant place to eat and meet (and meat – pork, fish, chicken, duck, other stuff I don’t even recognise, tonight I spoke to a French – Thai couple over dinner.
Afterwards I went for a wander through the markets for ice cream and then back to my room for movies and an early night.
